Boardmasters Festival
Boardmasters holds a completely unique space in the global festival landscape. Spanning a 65,000-capacity clifftop music festival at Watergate Bay and elite World Surf League (WSL) international competitions at Fistral Beach, it is a massive, multi-venue operation built entirely on the concept of subculture balance.
I have been an official photographer for Boardmasters since 2016. Documenting this festival’s incredible evolution over a decade-long tenure has required complete operational agility, absolute consistency under tight live-turnaround constraints, and an intuitive understanding of the brand's core ethos. My role on the media team means shifting seamlessly between the high-adrenaline action of professional sports, the macro-scale energy of clifftop headliners, and the serene lifestyle culture of the Atlantic coast.
Over a Decade on the Coast
The Brief
Multi-Format Commercial Asset Delivery
Operating inside a fast-moving, high-pressure festival ecosystem, my daily workflow is architected around four distinct operational sectors:
The Speed of Social
Operating on tight, live-time deadlines to execute fast-paced live ‘drops’. This provides the digital marketing and social media teams with immediate, live-feed assets to present the event as it happens.
Editorial & PR / Press
Designing text-safe, masterfully composed hero shots tailored for international press releases, national media kits, and regional tourism campaigns.
B2B Sponsorship Validation
Interfacing with global commercial partners to capture natural, consumer-facing lifestyle imagery that delivers direct visual proof of ROI for tier-one brands.
Internal B2B Pitching
Cultivating a long-term, year-on-year data visualisation library of crowd scale and structural site execution used for internal stakeholder reviews, local authority planning decks, and future retail procurement pitches.
